This story has the classic feel of Anne of Green Gables or Girl of the Limberlost. I really liked the heroine and wondered how she would overcome the challenge of being an orphan in a new town that doesn't know if it will accept her yet because she's not able to speak. I loved her host family and the way she earns new friends in her new home. Heartwarming.Note: There's one violent scene but it happens "off-stage" and is handled well.

I felt like I was there in rural Vermont. The characters really come to life. Can't wait for the next book.
I enjoyed this story from page one. The characters and setting felt real and natural, so much so that there were times I needed a tissue box near by. ) The only regret that I have is that I need to wait for the next book to see how Leyandra's story ends.
